Led by Paul Fong NPQH FCCT, an experienced Physics and Chemistry teacher, former Head of Science and senior leader, The STEM Coach combines classroom practice with experience in curriculum development, assessment, examining and teacher professional development.

Effective science provision depends on more than a specification. Curriculum sequencing, assessment, subject knowledge and classroom practice all need to work together.

The STEM Coach provides independent, specialist support to secondary science departments looking to review and strengthen their provision.

Science Curriculum & Assessment Review

An external review of your science curriculum and assessment approach, providing an experienced perspective on what is working well, where there are opportunities for development, and what should be prioritised next.

The review includes:

pre-visit review of curriculum and assessment materials;
a full day working with the department;
consideration of curriculum sequencing, progression and assessment;
discussion with relevant teachers and leaders;
verbal feedback; and
a concise written report with prioritised recommendations.

Supporting Indivudual Students

Supporting Individual Students

Alongside work with schools, Paul works with a limited number of individual students each academic year.

The STEM Coach provides specialist Science and Maths tuition from Key Stage 3 to A Level, with particular expertise in GCSE Science and A Level Physics.

Every programme is tailored to the individual student, whether the goal is building confidence, addressing misconceptions, achieving the highest examination grades or preparing for further study.

Tuition is available online worldwide, with limited in-person availability in Hull and East Yorkshire.

About The STEM Coach

Paul Fong NPQH FCCT

Paul is an experienced secondary science teacher, former Head of Science and senior leader, currently teaching Physics and Chemistry across secondary and post-16 education.

His wider professional experience includes external examining, curriculum and assessment development, teacher development and science leadership. He is also undertaking doctoral research in Nuclear Astrophysics.

Remaining an active classroom teacher is fundamental to The STEM Coach approach: whether working with a school, teacher or individual student, support remains closely connected to the realities of teaching, learning and assessment.
